Book two of a series is the hardest to write 9/26/2009 5:55:26 PM
writing is a learning experience for the writer. Well I finally got my author's copy of the book and was pleased with the cover overall. I think it really hints at what is inside. Also, I was glad it was done and out. People have been asking me what the hold up is and I couldn't really answer. The story took a different turn than I had planned and it ended up being a whole lot more interesting. I will be proud to autograph this one. it doesn't smack of conspiracy theory either. I included a lot of facts that aren't really well known. It was weird to discover that there are two other books out now that touch on my themes. I have found that my in depth education in world religions as well as Christianity make me able to make things a lot more interesting as well.
I think if you start out to write a series you should be aware that the second book is the most difficult to write. You are afraid you won't have the same "steam" as you did on the first book and you worry that the readers won't like it and that it doesn't add anything to where the last one left off. I also discovered that you HAVE to stop your books at a reasonable point. If it is to be a series you have to keep up the momentum as well as remember that you can't crowd everything into one book. I have found that writing series you get to write shorter books. People want to get it read. Then they want the next one.
Writing is a learning experience for the writer. I don't care if you are Barbara Michaels or Phyllis Whitney; you learn something new with each book. Characterization grows as you write. Your voice gets stronger. I am learning as I go. I hope that I can pass what I learn on to someone new.
