Dreams can tell you something 12/6/2008 4:48:27 PM
Listen to your dreams; you might learn something. Sometime between the end of July and the first of August this year, I lost what was left of my mind. I guess it was the recurring dreams about being in college that did it. I got the feeling that I had left something undone for the past 40-odd years. Anyway, I fought the dreams about being in the student union and looking through the class catalogue until I finally gave in and said "OK. I get it; you think I need to go back to school." Of course, I was talking to God. As usual, He just kept on sending the dreams until I actually did something about it.
I began to think about he courses I took and how I had felt unfulfilled even after completing them. Instead of learning what I really wanted to learn, I had to take all those courses that were required by the college for graduation. By the time I finally picked a major it was not the one I had started out to master.
So, I researched and scanned and finally found a collge that would allow had the courses I had longed to take. The first test was a disaster! I made a 55. Omigod! I had become totally stupid in the past 40 years. Gradually I brought my grade up to a B and that was also my final grade. It was NOT easy. 40 years before, I had done nothing EXCEPT go to college. Now I had a family, a house, a book to write and a college with courses I had to ace. There should have been a disclaimer on my dreams.
Did I mention I am still taking classes? I am. I have always wanted to be an archaeologist. I know that isn't going to happen. I am way too old and definitly not limber enough to be Ms. Indianna Jones. But I discovered that my facility with languages and my interest in history and religions and philosphy can lead me to the fullfillment that I had never quite found. AND, by the way, gain me a lot of insight into the subjects I use for my writing.
In the end, how ever long that may be, I will also end up with a theology degree that will allow me to be an educator in ancient languages and religions the pre-date Christianity. What fun! (I know you are saying to yourself that I really did lose my mind; LOL) Turns out that my grandson (who is 3 and in his second year of school: when did they start going to school so young?) is going to a new private school that is in need of a Principal, a guidance counselor, and teachers for the higher grades. Maybe I can trade teaching for tuition. If not, the is always the college where the staff in the Philosophy and Religion department is about to age out. Wishful thinking, huh?
Still,I am sure that this is all going to pay off somehow. At least I stopped having those dreams about college. Now I am so tired I sleep like a dead dog.
