A look at mother hood Happy Mother's Day, you mother, you. It doesn't matter who you are or where you live. A mother is a special thing (even if it is used as an adjective instead of a noun). You can be a birth mother or a second mother or even a step mother. I've been all three and am still in the "hood". Motherhood starts when you pick up your first doll or get your first critter as a pet. You can be your cat's mother or your dog's mother. They look up to you just as if you gave birth to them and you probably treat them much better than the ones who did. After all, they are your world just as you are theirs. If you are a second mother, you probably have given a lot of advice to someone who admires you or one of your own children's friends. I have had more second children than I can count. They all call me "mom" even now that they are grown and have families of their own. They were in my house day and night and ate at my table so much I often jokingly asked them "where do you live"...they always told me and I always said "well, you couldn't prove it by me." They arrived on Friday night for the endless spaghetti bowl, popcorn and television. They came back for Saturday (if they left) with their girlfriends and boyfriends. If they got locked out, they came to our house. If they had a fight with their parents, they came to our house. Sometimes I even had to take them to the doctor because their own parents were "busy".
I only gave birth one time but I sure did have a lot of kids. I love them all.
