Nosy Neighbors do you ever watch the BBC program Keeping Up Appearances? Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Boo Kay)keeps everyone in her neighborhood on their toes. She has become a legend in her own mind. Everything has to be up to her high standards. I am so glad I don't live nearby....oh, wait, I DO! I have a neighbor just like Hyacinth. In fact, my friend next door and I have started calling her that. The neighbor,of course, is oblivious to the reference and continues merrily along her way aggravating us with every visit."O, you are thinking, you are too hard on the dear woman". Ha! you live across the street from her then. She marches into my home like she is the inquisition. She wipes her fingers across my furniture like she is doing a white glove test. She doesn't have conversations, she carries on interrogations. Why do I have 2 kinds of detergent on top of my washing machine? What is the significance of fresh flowers on my living room table? Why can't I stop my "messing with the computer" (what she calls my freelance writing jobs) when she is there to visit? Why don't I want to hear about her husband's latest colonoscopy? It just goes on and on and on and on ad infinitum.
Maybe it wouldn't be so hard to stomach if she didn't feel the need to come over every living day of my life. I am NOT a social person. I LIKE peace and quiet.
I don't want to say any more; it sounds like sour grapes. Just watch Keeping up Appearances and you will see me hiding like the neighbors on the program...........
