While having a brochure photocopied, I had the unfortunate experience of having copies that resulted in blurred pictures of indistinguishable quality. The service staff told me it was because my original was a "bad copy." Life is just like that copying machine, and our young people today are the copies that come out of it. Children absorb what they see and hear from all the things around them, from the home to the media sources like television, video games, music video, etc. They absorb what their teachers say and teach, and they blend into their lives what their peer groups do and say.
Recently two very popular singers, Rihanna and Chris Brown, were involved in a scandal involving "dating violence". Brown was allegedly enraged and gave vent to his uncontrolled anger by beating up his "ladylove" and managing to rearrange her face. Because young people are their fans and most of them look up to these two as examples and role models to "copy",I shudder to think what kind of copies will be reproduced.
Previous to this incident was the actor who played the role of Batman, who also had problems managing his rage and was involved in family domestic violence and inappropriate language.
After those incidents, there was another news on television, caught on video tape, about a young boy, less than thirteen, who beat up the lady driver of his school bus, punching her so violently and with such force it was a wonder the woman survived. He kept punching like his anger was endless and although another person was trying to pacify him, he struggled to keep on, maybe intent on completing the lady's demise.
Do our children accept violence as a normal and copy what other older people do, the BAD COPY that we fail to speak out against? Or perhaps we the "bad copy" and we have reproduced despicable copies of ourselves?
