A Writers Frustration 5/30/2007 8:31:04 AM
I will never know how many books I could have written if only I had a mind. LOL! Seriously, though. I simply am getting more more forgetful. I wonder how many of you share this problem. I cannot tell you how often I find myself driving to the store or from and a wonderful thought strikes my mind about something to write about. It comes with a wondrous flash but unfortunately, it too often simply fades and by the time I set down to write I cannot remember what that beautiful thought was all about. How can I write about it and share it if my mind cannot hold onto it long enough to do so?
This happened again this morning. I suppose it is the product of old age. I am only sixty-one and everybody says, “You’re still young!” Tell that to my body. It feels older and my mind is becoming more and more forgetful.
I will put something in a place so I know where I put it and simply forget where that place is. Sometime later, after I have given up I find it. A friend sent me one of the cartoons, “Maxine.” There she sits with a scowl on her face saying, “Getting Old ain’t for Wimps.”
I truly think she is right. It takes a lot of practice. It takes perseverance and a lot of prayers just to reach this milestone in life. Soon I will be sixty-two. That reminds me of a quote from Mark Twain who wrote, “After you reach a certain point, you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.”
I still cannot remember that wonder revelation that struck me while I was driving to the grocery store. If I do remember I will surely pass it on to you.
