Heat is defined among other things as the quality of being hot. That can mean different things to different people in different situations. If you have a dog in heat you might very well be looking forward to some puppies on the way. If you are in heat it may mean you sitting in a sauna but right now who needs one. It’s ninety degrees on the outside. Heat is considered countable if you can easily measure it. I just gave you an example of that. Heat is considered uncountable if you couldn’t get close enough to count it. Like a furnace that puts out 5000 BTU’s of heat.
The more well known dictionary written definition of uncountable heat is, “A form of energy that is due to the vibration of molecules in a materal.” I can buy that but to me it means more like, “Man am I ever sweating.”
If you remove enough heat from a liquid you get ice. If you heat it enough you get boiling water and eventually steam.
Another uncountable deffinition of heat is the burning sensation you get when you eat something hot or spicy like sausa. The word heat is often used in a statement like, “In the heat of the moment I said something I wish I had not said. These are times when it is easy to make bad decisions like opening your mouth. If you have watched a cop film or cowboy movie you have heard sayings like he is packing heat. That means he is carrying a gun.
Sports fans know what the term, “This is the final heat means.” It means someone goes home a winner and someone else goes home sadly. This is like an inning in baseball or the last volley in tennis.
But today heat means one thing to me. Keep the air conditioner running because it is hot and humid. If you found this boring, forgive me but I had to vent.
