Happy Fathers Day! 6/17/2007 1:07:38 PM
I have an idea. Let’s come up with another holiday for us guys. After all, we all know Valentines Day is mostly for you ladies. Don’t start throwing things; I was just kidding. How about a Grandfathers Day? That way I get two shots at the spotlight. Lets see; we celebrate Easter, Christmas, Veterans Day, the Fourth of July, Mothers day, Fathers day, Martin Luther Kings Birthday, Presidents Day. We even celebrate Elvis’ birthday. There is Flag Day and Halloween. Of course Good Friday is a part of Easter. I feel with all these dates this poor old man simply can not remember them all any more. Oh yes, my wife’s Birthday and our Anniversary. Forget either and I am in deep trouble.

I’m back. My daughter gave me my father’s day present. It’s a picture of me holding my grandson when he was about three months old. Darn; no plasma TV set.
Oh well, I didn’t want one anyhow! These are the joys of being a grandpa. He crawled up in my lap as he does every time he visits and wanted to read to me. He’s a year and a half old and I’m a little hard of hearing so I am not sure what he is saying but I love it.
Now where was I? Oh, yes! The thing about all these holidays is that there is a reason for each one. Somehow we tend to forget just what we are celebrating. Christmas is a good example. The presents are nothing more than a way of saying, “I love you.” That being the fact; it really doesn’t matter if it is a plasma TV or a card saying I love you Daddy. When my kids were little a picture which was nothing more than a stick figure with a smile on his face was enough to make me happy. It still is!
