You may have read that I am currently writing a new Novel. It is tentatively named, “Angry Words,” although that’s not official yet. I often give my novel a name when I begin writing but a quote or line from the book gives me a better name. However, right now my problem is severe writers block. I have a great plot going and I want to keep it going.
Over the past several days I have written pages and reviewed them and erased them again. I realized that in my zeal to finish the book I am simply putting words on a page. The book would be really impressive if it had seventy thousand words but not if the reader never gets past the first chapter.
I think I will take a day or two and let it gel. I am writing a book about a man who lived in the roaring twenties. I have researched and am working hard to make this appear to be that time period. In other words, there are no Ford Mustangs but there are some Ford model T’s and maybe a 1914 Ford speedster. What I need to do is keep the action flowing so the reader will not want to put the book down.
So I think I need to give myself a break. After a few days, I will come back and read what I have written so far and see if that does not spur some continuity. This is a little dangerous for me because I may spend time rewriting some of what has already been written. On the other hand, that may open a new avenue to a plot twist that will add to the story line and keep the book action-packed.
Wish me luck as I try to improve and improvise a story of a time that I never had the opportunity to live.
