Memories 9/16/2007 7:49:35 AM
I can’t really explain it but when I awoke this morning I realized that I still my Mom and Dad. It’s been years since their death but this will happen once in a while. I am a father of three and grandfather of five but I still miss my parents once in a while. Maybe it is because I am not busy with the kids or grandkids. Ann is at working and they held her over so that leaves me here with my computer. I was working with my novel and found that the nature of the things I was writing seemed to lead me back to memories of those I have lost over the years. When I was young and immortal; or so I thought, I never gave a thought to the fact that this earthly life will end. I wrote a poem earlier and posted it on this sight; may you’ve seen it. It’s called “The End?” It is all about my folks. I guess I would have to include uncles, cousins and many close friends, too. I am thankful God has given me faith. Otherwise these times would be so sad. I remember Dad teaching me how to bait a hook and catch a fish. I remember going hunting with him. I remember the first rabbit I ever bagged. I didn’t even see where he was but Dad did. He finally pointed out a flower in a clump of bushes and told me to shoot below. Mom died of Cancer at 54. Dad lived another 20 years. I have adjusted to the fact that they are in Gods arms but once in a while I still visit their graves. They touched my life in a positive way. I want to do the same for my kids and grandkids. For that matter; I hope I have a positive influence on any life I touch. By the grace of God I will.
