A list to help reflect so that we, as Christians, can be more effective... New Sunday School list as a supplement of IMPRINTS:
I had a client come whooping and hollaring in with raving review this week about how she had read IMPRINTS from cover to cover in one night. She was highly inspired and stated that it was the same material that was being discussed in her current Sunday School class.
I have been hoping for some time that the issues I bring up in the book, homelessness, substance abuse, broken relatioships, shelters, and redemption from everyone of these is something can can be looked at in a Sunday School class. Most of all, the way Christiams stigmatize those who are in hardship and without is what I'd like to address. Too many times, I've been eyed up one side and down the other with judgment because I had a need and found it necessary to use certain programs in order to provide for myself.
"What's a woman like you doing in a place like this?" were the comments I received.
That's what I'd like to address. Stigma. Reality of 'places like this'. And.... 'how close we are or can be to places like ....'
I suppose you have to have lived it in order to be effective. I have. There are a lot of Christians out there who have been well protected all their lives.... highly sheltered, and simply don't realize the lifestyle that I'm referring to. That's what I want to address for the educational purpose of it. It would make us all more effective in our outreach.
But there's more.... We all deal with broken relationships and the bitterness that wants to threaten thereafter. We all deal with sociaoeconomic factors and everyday life hardships. It's our way of dealing with them that I address in the book. And it's our way of addressing each other in society that I challenge. Others have imprinted me in such a way when I had deep needs that left me a changed person so that now I have shared this story in book form. Now I am challenging others.
