IKE affects TOMBALL, TX 9/14/2008 8:27:56 AM
The effects of Tomball, TX, after IKE I've been told for a couple of years that Tomball is in a high spot of this metropolitan area, northwest Harris County, at the border of Montgomery County. Not only did I move here to get out of Houston crime and comotion, but I moved here for safety's sake, and now I'm seeing the results of it. We got our power back on before 24 hours had gone by; we've seen no flooding despite Spring Creek going right by. Spring Creek Park is 1/4 mile from my home. And the Tomball police and fire departments are fast to respond. I know that because of a guy who hit my car (thankfully minor - no damage) just before the storm hit. The police were there within about two minutes or before.
I love Tomball, and y'all know it.... or go visit my article "Why I Fell In Love with Tomball". There is a more homey atmosphere here, and one knows that one's neighbor will help. Some of my students live in Magnolia, and the mayor of Houston is praising the city of Magnolia for their speed in responding to each other's needs in time of emergency. People do not stay to themselves for fear of 'who are you?' and "I can't trust you...", but instead, are out assisting each other. The mayor of Houston is admonishing Houstonians to learn from the people of Magnolia. Tomballians are much like that. It's that simple town feel that keeps me hear despite the lack of culture.
