Truth and Honorable Course of Action 3/29/2008 5:43:21 AM
Speaking out is something we must do. Standing Up for what I believe is the Truth and Honorable Course of Action is on the forefront of my mind this week.
As I have faced a particular conflict in a new environment, I was overcome with the rawness and injustice of the situation. Bewildered at the rampant injustice allowed to thrive by immediate superiors, I simply could not celebrate accordingly. I made a decision to speak out.
At first, I went to my own set of personal references and petitioned them for advice. "Stay quiet," I was told. "You will not be heard."
Yet I wrestled with what I saw in the new environment. Finally, a week into the setting, my thoughts of one woman pushed me into my action to make a statement. Rosa Parks. She could no longer remain silent in a setting of injustice. She quietly made her statement, and the world changed. Rosa held true to her beliefs and to what she knew to be correct. It was more than her mere personal beliefs. Rosa held to the integrity of all people around her in honoring others. She did not take to the notion of "No one will listen to you." Her actions changed the world for improvement.
It appears, one week later, that against every advisor's comment, I have been heard. It brings no great happiness to me for ruffling feathers, only in knowing justice will be brought about. And that I hold dear. Truth and Honor.
One voice can make a difference, and don't doubt it for a second. What's needed is the strength and courage to go with that voice, and the determination to go with it. I don't take credit for mine. They came through certain endurances from the past. I only can now encourage others to use their own voice. Speaking out is something we must do.
