That's What I Think 8/27/2012 7:17:48 AM
Greetings.
I have spent a lot of time recovering. Last I wrote I was in the throws of a possible hysterectomy. This has not happened yet..
What did happen was that I saw two doctors; the ER doctor and a GYN doctor. Both want me to have a hysterectomy. But..I don't have insurance.
This is happening in our country more than anyone knows. I have applied for disability (Anxeity) but was denied. I applied because the Ageing Services Department of Oregon said in order for me to possibly get help for insurance I would have to apply. So I did. And got denied six months later by the disabled department. When I called to tell ageing services I got a denial, I was then told I had to appeal before they would help me. So...no help there. Appeal takes just as long and what would it get me but another denial.
I tried to get enrolled in Oregon Health Care but was told there was "No more room". Yes, No More Room. Oh, but I could be placed on a "lottery" list and hope my name was drawn! The only options left to do is privatized health care. One can get private health care for a big cost or you can settle for only major medical and hope you can afford the preventive care necessary to sustain your health. Of course Major Medical does not include vision or dental. So then one must pray her teeth do not fall out!
So after much debate I am applying for private health insurance to the tune of $450 a month. This will get me RX coverage, preventive care for free, I pay 20% of all other costs and my deductible is $2000 bucks. I am forced to wait through a six month pre-existing contingency. So I am trying my best at this point to live with the fibroid tumors. So far I am no longer in pain. My uterus has shrunk to a much smaller size. I know there is a foregin object on my body and have some trouble peeing. But it is the best course for now.
I was given an estimate of the cost of an Abdominal Hysterectomy....$25,000 dollars. Way too much...
So I wait and exist and hope that I do not experience the pain again or anything worse.
As it stands now there is no National Healthcare...supposedly that will happen in 2014....way to late to help me. It feels agonizing to know that I live in the best country in the world and yet my government won't help me. I am put off by red tape and a lack of empathy.
Talk about raising my panic level! It all feels counter productive.
