The purpose of this blog has been to provide updates on some of the cases I reported in my book (Fighting CPS: Guilty Until Proven Innocent of Child Protective Services Charges ISBN 9-780-9800061-6-2) that had not been resolved when the book went to press, and to report other cases where CPS is not working up to par. I’d also like to hear about cases in which Child Protective Services did the right thing so those cases can serve as examples of what should be done. Every now and again, I find it necessary to pass on information out there on the Internet from other sources that highlight the problems with Child Protective Services. Clicking the links from here probably won’t work, but I hope my readers will search on their own sometime to see just how bad the problems are! And this is a tiny fraction of what’s out there.

Madeline McClure, founder and chief executive of Dallas-based TexProtects, the Texas Association for the Protection of Children, said sky-high turnover, recent personnel changes among regional CPS managers and an unpopular overhaul of how cases are assigned have created a rolling crisis in Dallas County.

On Monday, retired Rangers Chief Henry “Hank” Whitman was tapped to be commissioner of the Department of Family and Protective Services, parent agency of Child Protective Services. Abbott’s social services czar, Chris Traylor, also appointed Kristene Blackstone to run CPS as an assistant commissioner at the department.
