The purpose of this blog has been to provide updates on some of the cases I reported in my book (Fighting CPS: Guilty Until Proven Innocent of Child Protective Services Charges ISBN 9-780-9800061-6-2) that had not been resolved when the book went to press, and to report other cases where CPS is not working up to par. I’d also like to hear about cases in which Child Protective Services did the right thing so those cases can serve as examples of what should be done. Some Good News . . . Sort Of
Back on Sept. 5 and 20 of 2016, I posted the story of Eddie Eskew and his family. I had another email from Eddie recently in which he said:
“I wanted to let you know that we got five of our children back on Nov. 18, 2016 and CPS sent our son who accused us home on Dec. 15, 2016. They denied our adoption of the baby they took from us but we are still fighting that. She is the bio sister of our adopted four-year-old, so I think we have a good case because of that and our CPS case was dismissed. It seemed to me that CPS just gave up after we beat them so bad in court and just decided to quit, not caring at all what happened to the children. They were out to take our rights away and destroy us but after the judge ruled in our favor, they treated us completely different. It is very concerning to me how this organization is run. We have since filed a juvenile petition against our son because he is acting the same as he was before, like this never happened, and he seems to show no remorse about any of it. He also told me that when he turns fourteen, he can choose where he wants to live. I told him that he is sadly mistaken, to which he replied he can if CPS is involved. I took that as a threat. So we are trying to get him into a group home where hopefully they can “fix” him since he was the problem all along.”
While it is GOOD NEWS that Eddie and his family won their case, it is BAD NEWS that they had to fight this battle in the first place. Hopefully a group home will help the young man (although you can’t fix someone who doesn’t want to be fixed) or at least get him into a place where he won’t jeopardize the rest of Eddie’s family again.
I will be continuing my daily prayer that Holy Spirit will speak to caseworkers, lawyers and family court judges to bring true justice to families: that children who need to be rescued from abuse and neglect will find safe homes, that families who only need a bit of help will not lose their children to the system, and that innocent families not be persecuted.
