No Place Like Home 8/22/2008 7:09:36 AM
thoughts about home and the longing thereof... Last night my husband and I went to visit a friend in the hospital. As we hurriedly walked through the halls and in and out of the elevator, I purposely made eye-contact with as many people as possible, all the while smiling. I was amazed to see just how many people smiled back and spoke cheerfully.
Excitedly I said to my husband, "I love to smile at folks to see how many I can get to smile back and it seems like there are a lot of happy people in this place tonight." Laughingly he said, "yeah, they're probably happy because they're going home!" I slowed my gait, shook my head and said, "you know, you're probably right." Isn't that usually when we are at our best? No matter how long you've been away, a day, a week, a month or a year, you always look forward to going home.
That's because home is a safe place for us. It's a place of comfort and familiarity and there's nothing else on earth exactly like that. As I think about this I am reminded that 'home is where the heart is.' And as much as we like and enjoy our cozy little nests here, there's another home awaiting all of us--one that lives in our hearts now but when we transition to the other side,we will wake up there and it's called eternity.
You see, God planted eternity in man's heart. We are encompassed with this strong desire to live forever! We don't necessarily want to leave here. That's because the desire to live forever was placed inside of us when we were born;place there by God and for God so that we can enjoy each other's company forever!
Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, "God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart." Isn't that an incredible thought for the day! Blessings...Frances
