Thoughts about how much has changed since the late 60's and early 70's... Sunday afternoon, I watched “Gidget Goes to Hawaii” on television. As I sat and enjoyed the story of families caring for and helping each other…even best friends feuding over silly things like envy and jealousy, I remembered how much my mama loved to watch this show. Memories of a time past when ideals and moral values were much different from today filled my mind. I thought about how Christian values dominated the airways of TV and radio then and recalled how worldly these things are today. What happened, I thought.
Then I realized that the down turn actually began during the late 60's and early 70’s—a time when ‘women’s liberation, flower children, freedom, peace and love were predominately in the air. It was a new wave that many of you may recall.
Now, thirty-five years later and much older and wiser—I see the fruits of our labor—or should I say, ‘lack of labor!’ We were the beginning of the most selfish generation alive and this selfishness has had a triple domino effect on our culture. We’ve gone from... occasionally using profanity, drugs and sex behind the scenes to active displays of these acts in public places, on television and across the airways of radio-pretending that it's okay-tolerable. We choose to sit by and passively allow these things to take root right before our eyes, the eyes of our children, and unfortunately,God’s eyes too!
The early Christians (Paul & Silas) turned the world upside down with their dogged determination to reach people through the love of Christ. Why can’t we? If we would only allow God’s love and values to penetrate every fiber of our being the way the Apostle Paul did, we could turn this world upside down today. Instead of allowing the world to seep into our lives and change our values, why can’t we stand up for what is right and make a positive difference in the world; to be strong in the face of the enemy’s tactics? The bottom line is that we will reap what we sow...
