Contemplating the value of accountability in key areas of life. If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!
Ecclesiastes 4:10
I have been a member of weight watchers online for well over a year. I’ve gained a few and lost a few pounds over that time frame—tracking points, staying on the band wagon with success and then falling off only to pack those few pounds back on. Are you with me?
Some weeks back, a friend talked me into meeting her downtown Waxhaw for one of the weight watchers meetings. I was hesitant at first, but finally gave in. Now, eight weeks later, I have successfully lost over ten pounds.
Why couldn’t I do this on my own? Why did the meetings make a difference? The answer is ... Accountability. There is something about stepping on those scales each week and being accountable, not only to myself, but to other people that is powerful. We are friends and we cheer each other on, even when we’ve lost .2 or .4 lbs.
It’s the same in our every day walk with the Lord. God created us for each other. He never planned for us to be lone ranger Christians. We are to lift each other up and encourage one another to keep moving forward. That’s why small groups and Sunday school classes are so vital to the health and well being of the church. We are to help each other with the different gifts and talents that God gave us to use and share.
Togetherness makes our journey easier and our load lighter.
