Thoughts about expectations of the New Year... My mom used to say that whatever you find yourself doing on New Year’s Day; you’ll be doing all year long. So, on this day, after enjoying a cup of hot coffee beside my husband, I plunged right into cooking breakfast, stripping bed linens, polishing mirrors and dusting furniture. I thought about how great it is to be alive and well and silently thanked God for His many blessings in life.
Later in the morning I sat down with my Bible and journal and these thoughts came to mind. And so, from my heart to yours…Happy New Year!
What you do on New Year’s Day
You’ll be doing all year long.
If that’s the case, then I must say,
I’ll certainly be healthy and strong.
I woke up early with energy
Couldn’t wait to get a start,
Didn’t know what was driving me,
But such energy, I could not thwart.
So, I started out with coffee
In a small cup, nice and hot,
Then, fixed a quick breakfast
Loaded with calories…not!
Next, I started cleaning
Since everything was upside down.
Oh how wonderful to have meaning
And people to love around.
If this is any indication
Of what my new year will be
Then welcome friends and family
To a happy new year with me!
Since, all we can really hope for,
In this hectic, tragic world,
Is sound health and vitality
To complete the work God has unfurled.
Commit your work to the Lord, and then your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:3
