Nothing worth having comes easy. If you want to be the best you can be at any endeavor, it takes work. There are no shortcuts to maturity--physical or spiritually speaking... For weeks I've been so excited about teaching this new class at my church! Written by Pastor Rick Warren, my pastor referred to 'Discovering Spiritual Maturity' as Christian boot camp. Now as a Marine Mom, I tossed this idea around quite a bit upon hearing the term. I thought now, "just what did my son learn at boot camp?"
The answer was quick and simple. He learned obedience, discipline and commitment to the cause. That is exactly what this class would teach all who listen with receptive hearts and open minds. It's all about developing Spiritual disciplines and applying new habits to our lives. A shaking off of the old self by acquiring new and better habits and then replacing some of the old with the new.
I am thrilled to be a soldier called into duty for Christ and as a disciple / soldier, I too, am committed to the cause of Christ--living the truth and teaching others how to really KNOW God.
My pastor was brilliant to think of this comparison about developing Spiritual maturity being equivalent to boot camp, since guess what? Nothing worth having comes easy. Just like it takes work to become physically fit; so it takes work to become Spiritually fit.
1 Tim. 4:7 'Take the time and trouble to keep yourself spiritually fit."
