One after the other, special occasions were upon me, focusing my attention on people I love
Ah, let me see, when did Spring begin? All I know is that it was a busy one. Our 49th anniversary was May 21. Just unbelievable that we have been married so long! We didn't have a big celebration, just went to Country Cupboard Restaurant and Gift Shops in Lewisburg, Pa. We've been celebrating our anniversary there most years. Of course, when we were younger and really scrimping, there was no money for "eating out." But now it's something we don't neglect.
Much of our time in May, though, was preparing for a 25th wedding anniversary for our daughter Susan and her husband Ferd. Ferd's a pastor, and we felt that there should be something at the church for him. However, to invite the whole church to a party is way beyond our budget. We sweated over a guest list for a while and settled on inviting the Praise Team and the Board. Sue is on the Praise Team and of course, Ferd is closely involved with the Board. With a few friends and close relatives, we had about 65 there.
Posters of their wedding rehearsal and ceremony added to the "specialness." The tables had centerpieces of lavendar Impatiens tied with orchid ribbons, and were set with orchid paper plates, cups and napkins, which just brightened up the whole place and looked absolutely beautiful. Our friends Carl and Terrie helped a lot. Terrie is very talented with decorating, and brought greens for the tables, too, and 2 potted trees with lights. Anniversary confetti completed the arrangements with shiny little wedding bells, hearts, and "Happy Anniversary" greetings around the greens.
The favors were little boxes bought at a dollar store. I made tiny copies of Sue and Ferd's wedding picture, put bits of lace around them as frames, and we glued them to the pretty white boxes. They looked adorable! I have about 10 left, and can't stand to throw them away, although I don't know what to do with them.
The food was great! We made hams and steamed, buttered red potato pieces, and bought mac and cheese and battered chicken from Lazarski's Catering. Also had corn and Bill's homemade bread. We even had appetizers--Carol and Tony brought their signature Immitation Crab Dip with Sauce and Wheat Crackers; I made candy strawberries, and Terrie and Theresa each brought veggie trays. Amy made a beautiful (her first time) decorated cake with white and orchid frosting.
Oh, I didn't even get into the program.....Guess I should save that for next time to keep this a little shorter.
