Van Gogh of the pillows

musings for a rainy friday.
Dad brought Go-Go to school, because it is rainy this morning. Now Mom, Dad, and the Little One are sitting in the den, enjoying some peace and quiet. The Little One ran up to Dad and dad said, "What's up little Van Gogh of the pillows."
Yesterday, while Mom was writing, the Little One took a marker and drew on mom and dad's pillows and bedsheets. Wasn't giving her enough Mommy time while Go-Go was at school. Sunday my Little One will be three years old. I wrote an acrostic with the word three. It will be posted on ritro.com on the 21st, in honor of my little one's b-day.
It's amazing to watch all the things she can accomplish. She seems much more independent than Go-Go was at that age. Of course Go-Go is the 1st born and Mom wasn't devoting so much time writing. I was taking care of my baby, and only writing for personal enjoyment. Then one day, when Go-Go was 2 something, she did something so cute, I had to write it down in a story. Then as I was browsing the web I found a place calling for submissions that story may actually work for. I sent off the story and got my first publication.
At the time the Little One was only a year and a half, and since then I've been writing stories about both of them. Kids are wonderful muses and Dad's line of Van Gogh of the pillows is something I had to remember.
My first writing submission was to the star trek amateur contest. I've entered the past three, however my first published story was creative nonfiction, and as my girls keep growing I keep getting more and more anecdotes to transform. And there are more markets out there for Life's crazy stories than there is for trek.
Not sure if this is cool or not, but nonfiction doesn't count as a writing credit for SNW, so I can keep writing and submitting stories about my children and my star trek stories without worrying about making myself ineligible to enter the trek contest. I like being able to practice writing and have the possibility of publication.
