Grandma's View of Divorce #4 5/16/2014 9:57:57 AM
Divorce and custody battle from a Grandma's POV.
Saturday - The Day to Have Fun as a Family
Saturday morning and it was a little earlier than what I usually woke up, but not much. I knew I had a book signing at Book World and at least I knew I would go with a lighter heart.
I felt a little hand on my shoulder and a gentle shake. “Grandma, it’s time to wake up!” I smiled and grabbed her for a big old hug. Grandpa had put her up to that. He said he wanted my dream to actually come true. That was so sweet of him! I know I have the best husband in the world!
Brianna’s baseball game was cancelled but Hunter’s was still on as far as we knew. Grandpa was going to take Katlin and Kenzie to shoot at Junior Pool. Heather was taking Hunter to his game and Breezy wanted to go with Grandpa and the girls to shoot pool. That caused a little apprehension. Heather sent a copy of the Order of Protection with him. He wasn’t worried, he has plenty of friends that would have stood beside him if Luke had decided to show up and cause problems. Luke Junior didn’t come to pool, Katlin and Kenzie shot and Heather went to Starship after Hunter’s game was cancelled.
I was at the book signing. Many friends came to give me love and support. I heard so many good reports and comments of how much they loved my books. There were people waiting for me! I was completely overwhelmed! The priorities in my life right now are my daughter and grandchildren. Book sales are secondary to me and selling the house is the last thing I am thinking about right now. I had great visits with Kay and Carol who came to buy one of my books to take to a friend in cancer treatment. I had customers who had purchased the books and were bringing them back for me to sign! Everyone wanted to know when the next book was coming out. Well...my next book was supposed to be called Brianna’s Christmas Wish. Instead, I felt God telling me to write my story of this struggle.
I had learned the hard way that grandparents do not have any rights to their grandchildren in the State of Illinois. I’m not sure what it is in other states, but here, we have to depend on the parents to let us see and be with our grandkids. I guess the lawmakers have never been a grandparent. I know of other grandparents who are not allowed access to their grandchildren, not because they live far away but because their kids are upset with them for some reason. Please, parents, allow your parents to have a place in your children’s lives. I can’t tell you how sad it makes me to know that others have gone through this pain! It hurts, and the hurt is deep and unforgiving in its intensity.
