Norma Jeane 8/14/2012 3:52:53 AM
I was born in 1953. it was the year the Korean war ended-8 years after WWII was over. While I was just a youngster a young woman named Norma Jeane was transformed into a sexy blonde bombshell named-Marilyn Monroe. She lit up the world with her beauty, talent and pain. By the time I realized who she was, she was dead. Some say by suicide- others by the hands of someone famous. Often when I think of her I think of the subtle dangers of fame-to be more than we are at the present-to make our " mark " on the world. But like Marilyn and others find out-fame has a price. When she was alive the world couldn't get enough of her and for a while even when she died. But like a new flavor to sample the world turned its attention on someone new to sell and moved on with someone
else's brief starring role. I often wish as well that I had known her before she became the sex symbol
Sadly I think even today we make idols out of youth and beauty. If it sells explode it by all possible means. to the point where every picture image and angle on the person's life soon rubs out the person people once knew.I wonder what Ms. Munroe would say to us from beyond the grave but none of us have that opportunity. She is silent in the pages of time. The comments from 4 writers on my poem-Norma Jean-yes I missed the last " E"-LOL-- struck a chord with me more than they realized. I agree with their comments totally. And it makes me wonder about the desire today to be famous--to make our mark in history. Everybody wants to be remembered for future generations. Some say whatever the price it would be worth it.I don't think Ms. Monroe would agree. It is tho I feel the role of every writer to be the voice of those who cannot speak, so that future " Norma Jeane's " know that fame despite its flashy looks has a price and that price can be costly. That's not news BUT that too is Reality
