The Write ring Mysteries...page three 7/10/2007 10:47:31 AM
some folks are already wondering about the mysterious host and having second thoughts. Only ten pages a day, that shouldn’t be so hard, but the subject threw me. How to commit the perfect murder and get by with it? I thought of the Agatha Christie Mysteries, what a sleuth she was. The problem here was not solving it but covering the act up once it was done.
I started thinking of all the ways someone could be killed and it look accidental…poison-accidental shooting-electrocution-stairs-snake bite-injection-I searched the recesses of my murderous mind for the perfect crime and I wrote hoping for inspiration.
There was a knock on my door; it was already 2:00 pm. What had I been doing?
“Come on in the door is open.”
It opened and Anita stuck her smiling face in.
“How are you doing?” she asked
“Not so hot. You want something to drink?” I asked as I popped a top on a coke.
“I’m on a diet,” she said, “You have some tea or coffee?”
I rummaged around until I found a can of Nestea with artificial sweetener and handed it to her.
“I really prefer the real thing with sweet-‘n-low. This always has a twang to it, but I’ll take it.” She smiled.
“How’s your story coming?” I asked curious if she was doing better than me?
“It’s coming along but it’s hard. I’m used to solving crimes not committing them. Makes a difference…its mind set I guess.” She said thoughtfully, “This is pretty crazy and a little scary if you think about it. Who would pay so much for a short story and why? Are we helping some sick-o commit the perfect murder?”
I was surprised, that had never entered my mind, I’d been thinking only of the million bucks.
“My gosh, Angela, you don’t suppose that is what we are doing!” It sounded reasonable after she said it.
“We figure it out, set it up for someone to do; he has seven ways to choose from. He can take his pick, get by with the perfect murder and we are the guilty ones because we planned it for him.” She shook her head and stood up and looked out the window. “I’m not sure I want to go through with this.” Turning to go out she called back, “I’ll see you at seven.”
