Do Not Open That Door

A warning was given
When our daughter-in-law moved off to Las Vegas with our three grandchildren we went after them at every opportunity. On one occasion when we only had the younger two and it was time for them to go home my husband had to take them back without me. Vegas is a long way from Wichita Falls, Texas. Somewhere in Arizona, worn out from the drive, he decided to stop for the night at a motel. After eating they went to their room and he told the children, do not leave the room for any reason, do not open the door for anyone, and don’t wake me up. Removing his hearing-aide He promptly went to sleep knowing they were safely locked inside. The kids were wide awake and excited about spending the night in a motel. They had all kinds of goodies to eat and drink and a TV to watch. They turned it up and ate and played and watched TV, they could stay up as late as they wanted too, Grand-dad was asleep! Around one am the neighbors in the motel began to complain about the loud noise coming from the room. The manager called, but the kids ignored the phone. The manager came to the room and knocked, they did not answer, after repeatedly trying to get someone to open the door or answer the phone the manager became alarmed and called security to come and open the door. Shocked and surprised my husband awoke to see three men staring down at him. The manager said, “Fellow we thought you were dead.” When asked why they did not answer the door or phone two scared little kids said, “Granddad told us not too.” Who could be upset, for this one time they did as they were told! Many years have passed and Grand-dad is no longer with us but the kids laugh still with tears in their eyes about their trip to Vegas with Grand-dad. Happy Memories!
