Some thoughts on returning from a national romance writing conference Hello gentle readers!
I finally made it back home after eight days of vacation/conference/airline travel. Although it was just the creative boost I needed, I'm totally exhausted from the trip and more than a little overwhelmed by the huge mountain of laundry and housework that accumulated while I was gone. Not only that but this is the first day of school for my middle schooler and high schooler, and I have but one day left before I have to go back to work.
Still, the national Romance Writers Of America conference in Reno, Nevada this year was superb and I was able to meet with old friends, make some new friends, and finally get the chance to sit down with both my Kensington editor and my agent. Add to that I brought home tons of information for my writing and my writing career and I'm totally satisifed with the results of my endeavors, in spite of a 12 hour delay on my eight hour flight home and an unplanned night in Las Vegas. All in all, it was great. Oh, and did I mention that I got to feed the slot machines quite a few nickles and quarters? No big wins, but tons of fun!
The best part, I think, is the sheer creative charge I get from such an excursion. I don't know if you write or not, but if you do I highly reccomend it. There is something about a change in scenery and also in meeting with like minded individuals that fills the well for me. Even a few days at the beach helps immmensely. I find there's a lot of power in nature, so any outdoors activity is a boon to my work. I think that vacations give the mind a chance to wander, to play, and which in turn gives release to creativity.
Now, if I could just get a little more creative about my household chores. LOL!
As soon as I get a few more things done and have a chance to relfect on all that happened the week I was gone, I promise to sit down and do a proper accounting. Until then, Happy reading! Take care, Pam.
