Hello!
I'm taking a break from my Monday to stop and rest here a few minutes. Like the title says, it's been super busy around here. We started the day with a seven a.m. conference at the middle school with my eleven year old. You want to talk about being intimidated? Try sitting at a very small desk, just you and your 6th grader, with no less than six teachers staring at you. All this without the benefit of caffiene, mind you.
Fortunately for my child, who is currently stricken with both a bruised foot that has her on crutches, and the beginnings of a majorly bad head cold, she garnered lots of sympathy from her teachers. Not so with mom.
Not that they weren't nice. In fact, I did enjoy getting to know them a tiny bit, learning that they really are interested in my kid and that said child is not just a number on the attendence sheet.
To their credit they really had only one thing in mind--the well being of my child. If I had never applauded the profession of teachers (which I try to do on a regular basis) I would have this morning.
What came out of that meeting was a plan of action, for both my sixth grader and myself. Things to focus on for the future and how we can make the most out of strengths and overcome things that would hold any child back.
All that from the first hour of the day.
Afterwards, a quick stop at the local grocery story, the 30 minute trip home, and the last few hours alternately cleaning and cooking. I'm preparing food not only for today, but for the rest of the week. It's been a challenge to think up new and different things for the family but so far I'm getting it done. The result of all my hard work? Cutting down on fast food and junk food. This is the third week of my crusade and I think it's going to work out.
For the weekend, we did have one dinner of hamburgers and one Sunday night pizza dinner, but that's it for the week. I'm so proud of my kids and husband. Not a complaint for the second week in a row.
Now, after breaking for brunch, I'm set on doing some laundry, working on my option book, and maybe running to the wellness center and working out on a machine or two. Then, when I pick my high school child it's off to her hip-hop class, homework, and maybe a little more writing. Talk about a full schedule!
Oh, and if my copy edits from book 2 arrive, I'll be squeezing that in somewhere, too.
Good news of the day? Well, I accidentally washed my external drive stick, you know, that little thing you use to save all of your imortant files? Yeah, I thought it was toast. Fortunately for me, it's in a 'waterproof' rubber casing. I let it dry out for a day, and my files are still present and in good shape. Ha! Technology rules.
