Where does the time go? 10/3/2005 10:50:39 AM
Reflections on losing time, or how can it possibly be October? Hello Gentle Readers,
Wow. Can you believe it? Is it just me, or did we blink and miss the summer? I know I've had my head stuck in revisions for a couple of weeks now, which is why no new blog entries lately, but I could have sworn we had a couple of weeks of summer left.
Anyway, yes, it is the first week of October already. My oldest child spent last week looking for a dress for Homecoming, and my youngest is looking for Halloween stuff. Me? I'd be happy to find a pair of socks around here.
It's so easy for me to lose track of things. I've been trying to get these monstrous revisions done for weeks, but just when I get a handle on things, another, better idea pops in. Like this morning. I was getting my blood drawn and I realized that I needed to add a little bit more in about how my hero suffered as a child. Not meladrama, mind you, but enough so it will give more support to the serious issues he faces at the end of the book.
I've been spending my car time listening to my mp3's of the RWA conference last July. Awesome stuff there and I urge anyone who wants to get pumped about writing to check them out.
Of course, when I got my mp3's, I realized that I would have to make about 180 cd's of the workshop. I then had this brilliant idea of getting an iPod. Except that the one I bought was only for PC's, and not Mac's, so that one went to my oldest child as an early birthday present. (Wouldn't you know that my husband's PC wouldn't take my conference mp3's!)
Anyway, back to the store I go and get a honkin' new iPod, for the Mac computer, and wouldn't you know it calls for an OS X, 10.2 or higher, and I only have an OS X 10.0! Urgh.
So, I go to the apple store again, buy the darn software, only to learn a week later that it doesn't like my previous OS X software, won't share library files, the greedy little thing, and I have to wipe my old OS, lose all of my files, (of which all book stuff is backed up on external hard drive, yay me!)
Whew. Then, I have to reload all of my software again. Big pain, but fewer files, things now working better.
Everyone is happy. Except for my youngest child who was lamenting that everyone has an iPod except her. One iPod shuffle later, and everyone is happy. Of course, I'm now broke. But hey, it's only money. Right? Right.
So now I'm back to finishing revisions this week, get this puppy in the mail and on to the next book. Oh, that must be where the time goes. Into books, work, school, kids, writing, and laundry. Well, maybe not laundry so much. Excuse me, I have to go start a load. (Yikes!)
Everyone have a good week, and I'll talk to you next time. Happy reading! Pam.
