Wow, time flies 9/12/2004 9:16:30 AM
Hello again!
We're already almost half way through September and I can't believe the time is moving along so quickly. Before long it'll be the holidays, and I don't know about you, but I'm not ready for that.
A lot's been happening over the last few weeks for me. Beaten down by bad weather, trying to manage kids, jobs, and writing--without electricity at times--has been more than enough of a challenge.
I'm not complaining. My time without power was only a blessed 48 hours, not like some of my friends and family who are still without power, weeks later. I know how blessed we are, and I don't minimize that blessing in the least.
On the book front, I'm going to be working on edits for The Mad Earl this week. I'm on vacation so that should give me time to get it in order. Being a December release, I'm both excited and happy to finally see this book come into fruition. For The Mad Earl, it's been a long, strange journey.
It was my first contracted sale to an epublisher, who shall remain nameless. After hanging in limbo for nearly two years, the Earl's fate was finally sealed by Wings Press about eighteen months ago. I can't believe it's been that long, and then again, it seems like forever. I will definitely be cheering when I can finally hold this one in my hands.
I've learned so much about the craft of writing since then so I'm hoping to whip it into shape and make it an even better book.
Nothing new on my Zebra historical book yet. I've not heard from my editor, but I did get the check in the mail last week. And, life being what it is, my husband's truck decided to burn out a valve and there went my first earnings as a writer. Buh-bye.
Still, as my dad would have pointed out, at least you had the money.
I am greatful and all, but a little disappointed. I don't know what i wanted to do with the money, except maybe buy an ibook laptop, but that's just too expensive for right now. So, we'll continue to have two vehicles for a few more years and maybe by then something really cool will have happened and we'll have the money to do better.
Like almost everyone else, all I really want to do is pay my bills and have a little fun money left over. To me, that's the real American dream. Although, like most of you, I wouldn't turn away from being filthy rich, either.
So, my answer? Keep writing, what else. I plan to turn this gig into a full time job one day, so that means more books and more writing. And, I should probably get to it now.
