One step forward, two steps back... 10/31/2005 6:37:39 AM
No real summary, just the usual Monday morning chaos. Good Morning Gentle Readers!
I'm pretty much at a loss as to what to really write about this morning. I've already shipped my kids to school, went for my weekly jaunt to the store, and now I'm back home facing my unending pile of laundry and a house that either needs to be massivly scrubbed or condemned. I really have no excuses to keep me here at the computer, except for maybe I'd rather surf the net than work on my option book. Don't you hate it when you have to make that choice?
Okay, if you're not a writer, consider yourself lucky. You can use your spare, (meaning time not spent on family care or a job outside of the house) time to do fun stuff like rollerblading or painting, or, I don't know, sleeping? Me, I wake up each morning, (or night depending on which schedule I'm on) agonizing on when I'm going to get time to write. My every waking moment is spent trying to figure out this character profile or plot twist. Last night I even dreamt about one of my characters. Like a genetic disease, the need to create just never leaves you.
Of course, no matter what you do, real life always manages to interrupt your careful planning. Yesterday, after finishing three twelve hour night shifts in a row I fell into bed for three very short hours of sleep, only to wake up and take my youngest child to the emergency room. She twisted her ankle the night before at a Halloween street party sliding down one of those huge air slides.
Six hours of waiting for fifteen minutes of doctor and nurse attention and three x-rays later, we went home with only a pair of crutches and some vague instructions on getting rest, taking motrin, and seeing your regular MD. Well, if I could have done that on a Sunday afternoon, I would have.
Then, by the time I stopped for KFC, fed the kids, and finished a Halloween chat with the Historical Authors Society, I collapsed in bed. One of my days off gone completely. On the positive side I did consume Julie Ann Long's The Runaway Duke during our long ER sojourn and it was such an enjoyable read, that it totally took my mind off my severe case of sleep deprivation, my bored to death eleven year old, and the screaming eight month old who shared the waiting room with us.
Now I've really got to get moving. My injured child wants to be picked up from school at eleven a.m. (I heaer it's awfully tough managaing a middle school schedule on crutches). And it's already 10:00 a.m.
At least during the long car drive (thirty minutes one way) I can be plotting the next couple of chapters for my book. I'd tell you about it, but then I'd have to kill you. VBG!
