Summertime blues... or, not? 6/16/2004 10:50:20 AM
Passing another long, summer day trying to ignore my housework, my bored children, and other goings on...or why I really should be working on my book! Hello again!
Yep. I'm back. It's midway through the day, through the week, and through the month. As soon as I get finished with my entry here, I'm going to write. Yep, really, I am.
I think the easiest thing for a writer to do is write, and at the same time, it's the hardest thing as well. I have plenty enough stuff to work on, by the way. One book I'm contracted to write that's giving me a fight and two others that I want to work into proposals. Let's see, two screenplays, and, oh, need I go on? Probably not. Suffice it to say, there's lots to be done, too little time to do it in, and hey, I wonder what's on television right now?
See what I mean? Yeah, back to writing. I've got plenty of motivation now, since I'm writing for pay. I'm waiting to hear back on edits from my editors, one at a New York pub, the the my e-pub. I'm reasonably sure those two jobs will keep me busy, too. It's the waiting that's the hardest part, to be sure.
Another thing that's hard is accepting the work you need to do. By that, I mean when an editor/critique partner points out your writing 'weaknesses' sometime you're loathe to admit they're right. But, if you trust them both, as I do, deep down you know they're right. See how that works?
After all, this is what I really wanted to do. It's why I work three twelve hour nights a week to have my day job be writing. Someday, I hope to pay the bills with it. Now, that's enough to get me writing, huh? Pay the bills by not being a nurse.
Nursing has been a good career, to be sure. For twenty-two years it has kept me warm and fed, allowed me to have children and drive a nice car. And yet, when I lay down at whatever time I managed to get some sleep, what I really want to do is write. I am constantly hearing dialoge, thinking up plot turns, and going of to places in my mind that I'll never get to in this life.
While there's no glamor in giving bed baths, changing icky wound dressings, or cleaning up substances I'd rather not talk about here, nursing has its good points as well. Ever worked a code blue and saved a life? I have. Well, with God's help and a few other doctors and nurses, that is. But the feeling is like no other. Also, helping someone through the process of dying, or watching an invasive cardiologist open up a clogged artery in someone's heart is beyond compare and are experiences that I wouldn't have traded for the world. Long story short, I'm hoping to have enough time and energy in my life to contiue doing both, and enjoying both.
Well, just got a thought about a scene I want to write, oh and yeah, I'm gonna load the diswasher. Um, maybe. Cheers! Pam.
