Facing the most daunting time of the year and new challenges as a writer. Hello!
Can you believe that we only have a month before Christmas? I'm so blown away by it all. Like every major holiday in my adult life, I am so not ready for it.
On the good side, next week my novel, The Mad Earl, will be released. It's somewhat of a milestone for me, because it's the first book I had a contract on. Of course, the original publisher took nearly three years to let it hover in limbo before I became impatient and took back my rights and then contracted it with Wings Press. It was a good move for me, and I've been very happy with Wings. Very hard working and professional, I'm proud to be associated with them.
Of course, I've been very busy since my last update. (Who out there isn't?) With a husband, kids, a job, and now writing, I seem to never have time for anything. In fact, the only reason I'm able to write this now is that our census at work dwindled and I'm on call.
Now that I've finally gotten through Spirited Away's (April 2005) major edits and revisions, I'm only facing the final read through before it goes to print. I can't wait!
Not only that, but I was told that my name was mentioned in this month's Romantic Times magazine with the other Zebra Debut authors. I'm extremely excited about that.
The biggest challenge I've faced since selling Spirited Away is getting motivated to work on book number two. The second book I've contracted to Kensington is looming over me like a large, angry beast. After I finish here, I'm going to get right back to work on it. On the good side, two other books are begging my attention. I have the proposals written on both. The most daunting task of being a debut author? The momentous fear and worry about getting contract number two. Ugh. Nobody said this writing stuff would be easy.
