Back from Atlanta! 7/31/2006 11:37:11 AM
Hello Gentle Readers!
I know it has been way too long since I've posted and for that I heartily apologize. I promise to do better!
It has been a super fantastic couple of weeks for me and I wanted to let you all know I'm still working hard at writing. Although nothing is yet concrete I do have some really fantastic book news in the making. I don't want to jinx things, so let's just say that if all works out well, I'll have some big things to report one of these days soon.
My biggest news however springs from my recent sojourn in the land of cotton. A full week in Atlanta, GA, for the Romance Writers Of America National Conference has filled me up with tons of enthusiasm in spite of a small disappointment at not winning in the RWA's most prestigious contest: The RITA's. If you remember, I had finaled in both the Best First Book Category and the Best Paranormal Category.
As it happens, I lost to two fantastic authors and I'm not a bit sad about it. I actually got to chat with the wonderful Linnea Sinclair, who took home the Paranormal Award, and I'm so pleased that she won. I met her several years ago when she came to speak at my local RWA chapter and remember enjoying her talk immensely. She's a talented writer and a super lady and I hope you'll join me in congratulating her. Yay, Linnea!
Going to a conference is such a huge challenge for me. First there is the immense cost of such an undertaking. In addition to conference fees and meals, there's the cost of travel, time off work, clothing, and many other unexpected expenses.
Still, it's worth all of the sacrifices when I get the chance to meet with much loved friends and also make some fantastic new ones, as well as celebrate the craft of writing.
My fellow members of the Central Florid Romance Writers (cfrwa.org) made a great showing as did the Romance Unleashed authors,(www.romanceunleashed.com). I suggest you check out both of those websites in the near future for reports on the conference!
Now that I'm home, I'm totally re-energized. Although I missed my husband, kids, and pets, I'm so glad that I went.
Now, it's time to get back to work. I'll report more on future developments when I can.
