Birthdays, spring cleaning, and writing 'The End.' 1/9/2008 6:37:13 AM
Hello, Gentle Readers!
Welcome to the first blog of the year. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and are up and ready for the insanity of the year to come. Put on your brave face and let's get it started!
First of all, as known to a lot of my family, friends, and myspace pals, I just had a birthday. I won't tell you how old I am outright, mostly because I'm blessed by not looking my age, but let's just say that I'm well, well past the age of consent, lol!
Now that that silliness has passed I can look forward to what the rest of the year holds. For me, as for a lot of you, I've been giving serious thought to bulldozing my house and living in a teepee. I mean it. The clutter around here is daunting and it's going to take my husband and I at least a week's vacation to really go through stuff. It's amazing how much a family of four can hold on to. Unfortunately, I'm married to, as well as gave birth to, pack-rats. I swear, they want to keep everything!
The biggest news of the week is my Urban Fantasy book, tentatively titled, Grave Danger. It is done. Or at least until I go back through it and do some revisions. I don't see a lot of changes, though. The story is as I want it and other than fixing typos and cleaning up the prose a bit here and there, I'm hoping it will be finding a home very soon.
For a writer, sometimes writing 'The End,' can be a very emotional experience. We spend months, sometimes years, on a story only to have to face the day we say good-bye. It can be devastating.
I once put off writing the last chapter of a book for a year. A year! How crazy is that? But, I loved the characters so much I couldn't bear to part with them. Fortunately for me there is cure for this malady. It's called 'the sequel!' Yep, Grave Danger was planned to be the first of three books and I've got my fingers crossed that the first one sells so I can go play in their world again.
As to its content, I can only tell you that it's a 'post apocalyptic zombie love story.' How fun is that!
Of course, I have at least four other projects I'm working on. This one was my NaNo book, though, and it's really cool to have it finished.
Next up? I'm going to take a couple of days off to let the story simmer. Then, I'll be back at it in a week or two. I've already sent a partial to a big name publisher, one of my dream pub's, by the way, so I'll let you all know if anything comes of it.
Note:Publishing is a funny business and not for the faint hearted. Who knows if the book will even sell? Not me. The only thing I can do is keep writing.
I have to work my nurse job for the next three days, and giving a day for family and catching up on sleep, I probably won't go back to writing until at least next Monday. Sad, I know, but the kiddies like to eat and have a roof over their head.
Then, I'm going to pour on the gas and try to finish my fallen angel story, "The Devil To Pay." It's a Regency set paranormal and I love it sooo much that I already have a second book in the wings waiting to be written.
A writer's work is never done.
