I'm baaack from Conference! Hello, Gentle Readers!
It's been bit, what with the conference and all. I just wanted to stop by and let you know I survived the plane, the crowds, and the entire conference experience.
Survived and thrived!!!
To all you romance writers, if you've never been to a conference, should try to go to at least one. If you're like I was starting out--no money, kids, ect.--then at least go to smaller, regional ones. Aim for the national affair. You won't be disappointed!
Now, back to Dallas. I was thrilled to go, although I'm a horrible flyer. I don't mind it much, just being closed in a big metal tube with a bunch of strangers. Fortunately for me, I flew with dear friends, chapter mates, and my critique parnters. We had a blast! I roomed with my designated conference buddy, who is an ER nurse, and we had a terrific time in that we can chat about everything and still have our quiet time.
Did you know you should have goals when you attend a conference? Yep. I've done it with and without, and I can tell you, with is way, way better.
My goals? I had editor and agent appointments scheduled, plus I wanted to say Hi! to my Kensington editor. Also, I wanted to really think about my career goals, I wanted some worshops that would charge up my writing, and I wanted to do some more research on the whole urban fantasy vs. regular fantasy thing.
I'm happy to report I had smashing Agent and Editor appts. and I did see my Kensington editor. I attended a couple of parties, I ate way, way too much. I went to workshops mostly about paranormal and urban fantasy stuff. I also am charged up about my goals. I'll get to that in another post, soon.
The most important thing I got out of the conference though was that when I got home I was fired up for writing. I lit a match at my computer yesterday, and an 8 page synopsis, and 25 pages, plus revisions on 60 pages later, I'm still going strong.
Now, my stuff is with my critique partners, and I'm hoping to be sending it to the agents, (yes, 2 agents!!!) in the next few days.
Of course, it will be a long, waiting period, even for published authors it can be up to 90 days. But, that's okay. I've decided to finish this book no matter what.
Anyway, that's all I have to report right now. I've been home since Sunday and I haven't unpacked. Yikes!
