Spring Break at last! 4/4/2006 11:07:18 AM
Hello Gentle Readers!
Well, it's certainly been a week to remember. I managed to get a heck of a head cold over the weekend, fell on my face first thing yesterday, (Monday morning), and as usual I'm running behind.
Right now I'm taking a break from writing yet another proposal and finishing the final galleys of my May release, THE HANGING BRIDE, and trying for the third day in a row to get motivated to clean my house.
All of this after spending a marvelous spring break in St. Augustine, Florida.
This has got to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. In fact, my retirement dream is to pack up one day and move there. I want to be a part of that little patch of history, see the fort whenever I want, walk past centuries old cemetaries, and fill my lungs full of that fine sea air. Gosh, how I'd love to live there.
If you've never visited, I highly reccomend it. I know, it ain't Disney, but to me it's far, far better. It's a timeless place where ghosts thrive and the improbable is possible. There's the granduer of a life long past and of an untamed wilderness. It makes me shiver just to think about it.
We visited Potter's Wax Museum there, the Fountain of Youth, Fort San Marcos, and did the usual tourist stuff. We walked the entire length of the old city, did the ghost walk at night, and spent an afternoon at Ripley's Believe it or Not museum. What a hoot!
We didn't get to the beach this time, so we'll manage that. We also ate at a great resturant across from the Bridge of Lions. It was the coolest place on the planet, I tell you.
There is a museum next to City Hall, called The Lightner Museum, which has all sorts of art and collectables from the last century.
Also, the churches there are fabulous, and I'm told that you can tour the Flagler College which was a huge resort hotel back in the 1800's. I tell you, this place is to die for!
Although it'll never be published, I wrote my first romance novel about St.Augustine, FOREVER FIRE, a 150,000 word historical set during the time that the English returned Florida to Spain, it was a Colonial pirate story full of high adventure and history. What a rush it was to research it!
Anyway, I know there is so much to see in this wide world, but I wouldn't give up a moment of the time I've spent in this beautiful city.
