No one writes letters anymore. By letters I mean two or three pages of handwritten words; letters that ramble on telling the recipient all the happenings. Now we have emails and thank God we do or no one would correspond other than telephone calls which disappear the minute the receiver is replaced.
There is just something so special about a real letter. Somehow you are able to convey more emotion with written words, but then perhaps that's because I'm a writer. But, it seems easier to pass along information about the special things in life, both happy and sad, in a hand-written letter. Of course, the computerized ones can also carry the same messages, but most don't. And, I dare say some folks like the personal sound of a friendly voice.
So, I love getting emails from friends filled with the personal exchanges that are so important to relationships and yesterday was a banner day! I received not one or two but several and I was delighted. Of course, they are now copied and resting comfortable on a stack of 'to do' jobs next to my computer. And, I WILL answer them with long rambling emails, because you see, I, too, have substituted emails for regular letters. But at least I keep the important ones printed and stacked up in a file-folder labeled 'correspondence', which is a phrase not many people use.
Today I'm off to my monthly women's networking luncheon and I'm excited. It's so good to be in the company of such lovely, friendly, busy and successful women.And…I just might sell a book or two.
