Next Monday I'll teach the last class in this 6-week series of creative writing at the South Florida Community College. I'll miss these students because they are so enthusiastic and such potentially great writers. SFCC has asked me to do another but I'm begging off until the fall. I've been so busy these past three months that I really want to get back to the book that is running through my mind constantly. But, the connection with SFCC goes on. Earlier this week Becky,who heads the department, called and asked if I was available to take over a life-time-learners class today. Becky assured me I'd be paid and expressed her gratitude about my being able to step in. The original speaker had backed out at the last moment. I said "yes". That's one thing I have no trouble saying, it's 'no' that is difficult for me. I asked her what she wanted me to speak on and she said, "Tell them how you got to be so successful." Well that sounded like a brag session so I remembered a presentation I gave not long ago about making dreams come true. In fact it was entitled "Never let a dream die" so I took that with me. I might add here that I never have any notes when I speak so it's all by the seat of my pants kind of presentations. I love doing them that way, gives you freedom to stray from written notes and play to the audience. Anyhow, tonight I'm tired but extremely pleased. The group were wonderful and they asked such good questions during the Q & A at the end of the presentation. And, best of all, they were so interested in my books and purchased several. I am enjoying my relationship with the college, it is both challenging and rewarding.
