Sometimes things go up and down so quickly it makes your head spin. Yesterday I began teaching a creative writing class at the local community college. It's a six-week course that I've given before at another community college. Usually I have from 10 to 20 students and the interaction is so interesting and beneficial to everyone, me included. But, yesterday my class was limited to 5 seekers of help with writing. They were intersting, lovely people and we had a great class. It was almost like 5 private lessons so I quickly recovered from my initial disappointment at the number of students. I foresee a great time during the next five weeks if yesterday was any indication.
Today I took part in the first Diva Day health and beauty fair at a local senior community. I displayed my books in the hope of selling a few. You never know how these things are going to go but I always go thinking it will be good. Well, I was wrong. It wasn't good -- it was great. What a classy, friendly group of people and the programs were fantastic. I sold some books and enjoyed the other speakers and when it came to my turn to speak about courageous women (the main theme of all of my novels) I was so well received. A long, tiring but totally wonderful day.
See? Ups and downs don't really matter -- it's the whole picture that counts and my experience in just two days was so worthwhile. Tired? Sure but happy is a better word.
Now tomorrow is another thing -- on Sunday I broke a tooth (a front one at that) and so we're off to the dentist. If you only knew what a coward I am in the dentist's office -- but that's another story for another day.
