Today I did something I never thought I'd have to do. I called 911. My husband, who has been dealing with light-headedness for some time, became so dizzy that he couldn't stand. He said, "I don't think I can walk to the car" when I suggested the hospital. So at ten o'clock this morning I was following an ambulance to the hospital. We were there until seven o'clock this evening when he was admitted for observation.
The strange thing was that while I was sitting next to his bed I vividely recalled somethings that made little sense to me. I remembered seeing that the shrubs at the entrance to our community had been trimmed. I remembered that as I hurried into the hospital I noted the gardens along the path needed weeding and at the last moment, before I pushed my way into the hospital I turned and noticed the gleaming white steeple of a church etched against a cloudless blue sky. Why did I remember these things when I know I was crying as I followed the ambulance. I know my heart was filled with misgiving and just plain fear. But during the day, praying at all opportunities and some times when it didn't seem opertune but just right, I knew that I wasn't alone. That the presence of God was what calmed me and made it possible to encourage my darling husband. So perhaps there is more sense in my strange remembrances of that earlier time today. They did lots of tests, scans and procedures and still haven't been able to identify the cause of this problem but somehow I know they will and I'll know who to thank.
