Well today got off with a bang. I was a guest on a local radio show, the Barry Foster Show on WWTK here in Sebring. Yesterday I called on the off chance that I might get to be on the popular talk show and surprise, surprise, he said, "Love to have you. How about tomorrow at 8:00 a.m."
Well, you don't turn down that kind of an invitation so I went to the station this morning expecting a ten or fifteen minute spot on his show. Barry, a most gratious host chatted with me for over 45 minutes. What a nice experience.
I attended a workshop last week which involved the local media and we learned what newspapers and other media sources want in the way of news and the does and don'ts. Barry was one of the panel members and he mentioned that if you had any newsworthy events he'd love to have you on the show. I don't miss an opportunity if I can so I called.
Not to diminish the second surprise of the day, my picture was on the front page of the Highlands Today newspaper and the article appeared on the second page, all as a result of my press release which I submitted pursuant to the standards that the workshop panel advised.
These events were a rewarding experience and lots of fun, too. Guess this proves that the more you attend and the more you get your name out there…well, sometimes it works and this time was great.
So writers, don't be afraid to try all manner of promotional idea.
