Blogs by Sue Hess Because we CAN... 8/4/2005 9:21:29 AMever want to just do something because you can? My daughter Susie and I went to Bingo last night. Not that either of us was especially in the mood to gamble but Kasey is away at camp all week and Susie felt like she should do something just because she could. So we did. (She won, by the way.) It made me start thinking about when my sister first moved in with me, fresh from a husband who started every trip saying "go now cause we are not stopping...." and I swear that the first few trips Sis and I took, we stopped to pee at every service station. Just because we could. I told her we were like two old dogs, peeing on every tree but the freedom of being able to do something 'just because' was too much to resist. We went places our husbands had always said were too boring, too far or whatever, we ate in places they never liked, I always think of those first few years as 'just because we could' years. And when I think of them, I miss Mary...we had a lot of fun living together, even though it got tense there at the end. But hell, it's not like she's gone far, she lives a couple of miles away. And we talk on the phone almost every night. The nights we don't talk, I sit in my quiet home, with the tv off, no mindless chatter...just because I can.
