It is so wrong... 3/22/2007 10:59:38 AM
Something happened to my daughter that should never happen to any woman, but it is her reaction to it that really is killing me... She got in the car with the wrong man...hell I'm not naive, she picked up the wrong man. Over a course of 10 hours Sunday she was tied up with plastic cords, raped repeatedly and beaten senseless. By the time she talked him into letting her go, swearing she would never tell anyone who he was, she looked like she had been in a car wreck. Her hands were swollen purple and twice their size, her lip is split down to her chin, her jaw may be broken and the back of head felt like an over ripe canteloupe. And although she let me take her to my doctor, who said she had no concussion but needed emergency care very badly, she refused to go to the emergency room or the police. She is on probation and she said she knew how they would treat her and that she would be violated and sent to jail for picking up a stranger. They would assume she was hooking. I'm not going to make a moral judgement here, I don't know why she went to this man's house, but no one should be treated like she was treated and then be afraid to look for justice. I am frustrated, appalled and angry as hell. And yes, I'm scared for her too. I don't want her to be treated the way I know they would treat her at the police station, she is a victim not the guilty party, but women who have been in trouble with the law, for drugs or prostition or whatever, cease to be human in the eyes of our so called protectors. She said it would be adding insult to injury to have to deal with them. So this monster will get by with what he did and maybe do worse to some other woman, because she refuses to seek legal help. And this causes her to also not seek medical help. I think of disease, of ruptured organs, so many things that could be wrong but mostly I think that she could have died in that basement where he kept her bound, and I would not have known until her body was found in some field outside town. With her haphazard lifestyle, I have to deal with the fact that she sometimes doesn't call for days and then I have no idea where to find her. I hesitate to go into some of the areas she is known to visit so I sit and worry and wait. How long would I have worried before I knew the worst. She swears she will never take such a dangerous risk again, never jump in the car with a stranger, never go to the house of someone she doesn't know...but do I believe her? Right now I do, the pain and fear is too fresh. But eventually...I just don't know.
