I didn't go to work today...I called in and the other two in my office had showed up and it didn't make sense for all three of us to risk our lifes...so for the good of the department...I stayed home in bed.
I need a break. Not that Judge Judy isn't enthralling (she isn't) and not that I don't enjoy reading the travails of Howard Stern and Larry Birkhead but enough is enough. There must be something more important going on in the world. I was very upset about Anna Nicole's death and my heart goes out to that little baby girl...but enough people are cashing in on this whole story...it is getting to feel sick to read it.
I think we are still fighting in Iraq aren't we? My daughter's neice recently made it home unscathed after a year over there, only to get pregnant the first month back. We are very excited about the baby, since Loren feels more like my daughter's adopted daughter to us all. But I was mistakenly assuming that this meant she wouldn't have to go back next year as planned. She says that is not the case. She will have the baby and be allowed a reasonable time to spend with her (the army's reasonable time that is) and then she will be shipped to meet her plattoon, wherever they are. This doesn't seem right to me. I'm a very independent woman and I believe women are as capable, if not more, of fighting a war but there is a reason why women are the ones who have the children. I have to admit I'm not sure what it is, but I believe it has to do with maternal instinct and since women are the ones to pop them out, I think they are necessary in the growth process. No they can't replace a father but I don't think a father can replace a mother. I believe war should not interfere with family responsibilities. I know I'm going to get a lot of flack for this but I'm sorry, I really feel if you have them, you have a responsibility to raise them, war or no war. I realize that fathers are over there fighting and if everyone got to go home because they have families, then no one could fight the war....mmmmm. Guess this is what is called a quandary...I really believe some wars have to be fought and I really believe a baby needs its parents. I'm not a big fan of this war but I am a very big fan of this country and I feel the need to stand with the country and the men who are fighting, regardless of my feelings about the other 'issues'. I make a very big point of never discussing politics, at home or in print and I am getting into dangerous waters here. Suffice it to say I am concerned about a member of my family and leave it there.
I was very pleased to stay home from work today and I milked it to the core, staying in bed till an unGodly hour and then lazing around once I was up but now it is late afternoon and I'm restless, I feel that I have wasted a day. And I don't even know what I mean by that. I bundled up and checked out my car doors for ice, walked over to Panera's and bought two cups of coffee...one for the walk home and one for the sofa while I watched t.v., I did what little housework still needed doing, I talked to every one in the family at least twice, but I still feel like there is something I should have done and didn't. Can't be that I didn't go to work...who feels bad about that?
Oh well, I'm also not feeling introspective so I'll leave that 'vague' feeling alone and read a good book.
What I would really like to do is write a really great poem but my creative juices are not flowing...oh hell, I'm going back to the t.v., cover up with a warm afghan and read while I ignore the news...I'm a responsible person and I have a commitment to waste this day...why stop now.
