Wow am I hot... 7/8/2007 4:19:19 PM
Sounds like I'm blowing my own horn doesn't it....
Noooo...I'm just complaining about the weather. I took my parents to church like I do every Sunday morning but by the time I got home early this afternoon, I felt like a dishrag, bedraggled and sweaty. I called Kasey to see if she and her friend wanted to go to Baskin Robbins for ice cream but by the time I got over to their house I was too hot to really want to go. Fortunately, when you promise ice cream to two nine year olds, weather is no excuse to back out. Anyway, I recruited Kristen to go along (Michael was at work) and we went for waffle cones at the local parlor and it was really nice. We ate inside instead of sitting out like we would normally have done but the ice cream was delicious and the kids were delightful. If you are ever feeling down and just out of sorts, watch a child enjoying a big ice cream cone and I defy you to stay depressed. They each have a method and its as exacting and precise as any function I have ever seen in my career with computers, a science from the first bite to the last. I almost forgot to eat my own cone, I was enjoying watching them so much. And Kristen, even though she is twentyone this year, showed more joy over her ice cream cone than she did over her first glass of champagne on her birthday back in November. I don't think she or Michael will ever be much for drinking, they just don't have much interest in it. Ice cream is another matter. When we were in Florida last week we made at least two trips to Coneheads for huge double dips and this week when we went to Shogun's for Japanese food, we finished it off by sharing a couple of scoops of green tea ice cream. It's fantastic to share this fondness with them but they don't have the hips to worry about. Kristen is a tiny thing and Michael has never had to worry about his weight, even though he eats enough for two people at times. Teenage metabolism, I guess. Wish I still had it. I too was tiny for most of my life but something happened when I reached my late thirties...at first it was just a few pounds that I would take off easily...then I would gain five and only lose three of them...thats how it starts and one day you wake up and say...my goodness, there was a little fat girl inside me all the time, just waiting to get out and look what I have now. But you know what? I'm not frantic about it. About once a year I go on a low carb diet and take off some of it and then gradually add it back on and it gives me something to do. I'm soft, I'm round...I'm comfortable to lean on, you can ask my granddaughter, she loves to rest against me when traveling. I'm a very happy woman who could stand to lose a few pounds....there are worse things in life...
