My adored grandson's 19th birthday...
It's been a pleasant day here in St Louis, not overly warm but definately springlike. I've sat down to write several times this week but gave up after a few lines. The hardest thing for this poet to admit is that she has nothing to say but truth is....well, you know...I have nothing to say. That doesn't take away the urge to write though does it? Not for me at least. I need to communicate, to express myself even if it is only to say hello. I am beginning to look forward to summer, even if it just means a week or so in Cape Sand Blast with the kids and grandkids. My sister and I usually travel but she is taking her grandkids to Branson this year and I promised Susie I would go with them to the Emerald Coast. Cape Sandblast is not where I would have chosen for a vacation years ago but Sue and Troy rented a house there for their honeymoon and go back every couple of years now. The kids love it and it does make for beautiful lazy days and peaceful nights. The last time I went with them, we were just getting breakfast one morning when we saw on the tv, the unforgettable scene of the planes hitting the twin towers in New York and the rest of the day went pretty much the way it did for the rest of the world. Now every time I think of going, I remember September 11. That is part of the reason they decided to go in June this year, it won't quite bring up the same memories. That and the fact that Mike is transferring to St Louis University and will just be starting his first sememester at the new college and doesn't want to start late. We were very proud of his decision to go to Rolla but like many freshmen, he has changed his major to bio-chemistry and althought Rolla is a great engineering school, it doesn't have much to offer a chemist. St Louis University will be expensive, much more than Rolla but he hopes to go for pre-med and you can't beat it for that. So back to the original subject, my summer vacation. We have rented a beautiful house on the beach, swimming pool included for those of us afraid of sharks and a nice upper deck on which I will plant my ass most afternoons, while I read a good book. Sorry but that's my idea of a good vacation. Last year, Michael, his girlfriend Kristen and I went to a dude ranch in Hot Springs Arkansas and part of each day would find us each in our favorite spot, reading a book. Of course, they went horseback riding, we went to a great alligator ranch, a botanical garden...every day we went somewhere touristy but in the afternoon we enjoyed the ranch and its peace and quiet. Florida will be a lot like that. They will probably go deep sea fishing, I will read, they will ride horses on the beach, I will read, you get the picture. I will enjoy every minute of it, we'll cook fantastic meals, eat at a few local places...do a little, very little..shopping and thats about it. To repeat myself...I'm very much looking forward to it. And look how much I have written...and I had nothing to say...
