I haven't written for a while and though I haven't got much to say...I have lots of time to say it.
I'm on call tonight so I have been on the computer all evening doing work things so I thought I would take a few minutes for myself. Things have been hectic at work. The company I work for just sold their I.S. department to Perot (that's right Ross' company) and we have to reapply for our jobs, right down to background checks and drug tests. Luckily the drug test is no problem anymore, hasn't been for years, and the background check is okay, since I have led a fairly boring life in the past 30 years and we won't discuss the 25 before that. But I've been at my job over 20 years and I have to say I'm a little nervous. What if they don't need me...what if they have their own people to do what I do...yeah I'm scared.
Family is all fine. My younger daughter Susie, who you never hear about because she is the quiet one with a family and two kids and never a bit of trouble, (Yeah, squeaky wheels and all that)is away for the holiday. They are all visiting my brother's family for Thanksgiving. I will join Deb and her friend Dave tomorrow for an early dinner and then go out to my niece's house for a later dinner. And take calls all day since no one is at work tomorrow. Deb has moved out and in with Dave, whom she works with. They say they are just friends. Who knows. She is doing fine, clean and healthy, putting on a little weight but isn't everyone. I'm afraid that contrary to that sweet little poem I have posted, I really ordered my dinner from Dierberg's, a local market, fully cooked and Deb and I will put on the trimmings and add a few sides. But cook a turkey? I'm sure I could, I am a woman after all and we know these things. I did bake a pumpkin pie and if it is a little shaky in the center, I meant for it to be that way. I bought the fancy cranberry relish with orange peels and walnuts...tell me I'm not domestic. I really like the jelled stuff out of a can but I'm trying to make it seem like I put a little more effort in it than I did. Lets keep that between us...by the time its on the table tomorrow, Deb and I will be fighting to take the most bows for creating the perfect Thanksgiving dinner. And it will be because we are together and happy to be together. I hope all of you are too.
