Do you think we get clear pictures of AD writers and their personalities?
I've noticed that by the time I have read a few poems by an AD writer, I usually have a personality for them set in my mind...may not be anything at all like them but its how I see them, and it seldom changes. Jerry Bolton always makes me feel like arguing, even when I agree with him, he is just so sure of himself and his beliefs, I automatically want to debate...he would be a good pen pal, you would never get bored with topics to disagree on. Felix, a big old teddy bear in my mind, I want to hug him. Sandie I always feel protective of, she takes everything to heart and I want to build a wall around her and say, stay here and don't get hurt. Alexandre is so hot, I can't tell you what I would like to do to him if I were 20 years younger and it isn't that he writes about hot topics, just something that comes thru. Kenny I relate to, feel like we could have heart to heart talks on many subjects. Ditto, Kate, I feel very comfortable with her, as if we are friends or could be if we met. Ed M makes me laugh and Ed K makes me feel like I should be more aware of the world around me...they both have a great sense of humor. Grady writes from the side of life that I can relate to, a sort of street sense about him that says he has seen a lot of the world. Sherry seems like she might have been around when I was a hippie, she has that feel, regardless of her age, seems like a sixties person. The twins make me feel good about the world and the people in it. Wow, now that I'm started I could keep this up for awhile, but I'm bound to miss someone so I best quit now, when I haven't even touched the group as a whole, rather than try to mention everyone and miss one. Truth is, almost everyone I read at AD is set in my mind, who they are to me, and I haven't a clue if they are really like that, it is just how they strike me or how I relate to their writing. There are a couple of writers that I disliked for no other reason than that I firmly disagreed with something they wrote or a tone of their writing but I've found that I still read these writers just as faithfully as I do the rest of them, just to see what they have to say. I admit to reading but never commenting on political poetry and I often skim deeply religious poetry, not because I don't believe in God, but just because I don't care for religious poetry...a personal taste, not a critique. I love erotic poetry but don't care for sexually specific poems, I believe the truly erotic is subtle, not pornographic. We have had some excellent writers of this type of poetry here at AD and one in particular I miss alot. I am a great fan of avante garde poetry and it is no secret that John Dempsey and John Reilly were among my very favorites and I miss them both. At least here on the site, we are still friends away from AD. As are Krisie and I, and a few of the old timers, I'll always count them among my friends, even if we disagreed on every issue we ever discussed, it was a friendly disagreement in most cases. What I'm trying to say is that AD has given me some wonderful moments, some glimpses into lifes that I would otherwise have missed, into personalities that I would probably not have run into in everyday life and for that, I am grateful. I love you all...or in Alabama we say....luv yall!
